 Arrested Development

(Author's note: Sometimes, common ancestry is captured best in the smile of a child. It causes you to wonder just who is behind those eyes and what you could possibly share in common.)

As always, acerebically unedited.

Okay, this was all too much fun. I half-considered making anyone reading this guess who she is, that is, the girl in the picture above, but I that really wouldn't be fair. All I will tell you, though, is that the genealogical link to her is pretty darn strong.

I suppose I should mention her father first, and how he connects right through in The Descendants of Thomas Carter, or drop a cookie crumb with some meme or quote of his that would help "her" fall into place. I mean, it isn't as if they aren't both part of the nation's collective conscience. It certainly isn't like her father wasn't an interesting fellow, but how do you mention him when "she" has mentioned him so well? See a quote of hers below:

"My father always wanted to be the corpse at every funeral, the bride at every wedding, and the baby at every christening."

I mean, how much more interesting does that make her? Now, before you go and Google that quote or image, or read ahead to where I've outlined the pedigree for my client Paige Dunham, I hope you will indulge me in this funny "haha" moment in the cartoon below.

That's so her!

You see that little girl in the picture above grew up to be one of the best snobs in modern history. Her acerbic wit could toast a crowd. In this instance, she seems way more fun than her stuffy old dad, who got way too much press and would be way too obvious to mention here. I mean, genealogy should be fun, right? If we're going to connect to notable kin, well, the better part of those notable kin should at least have a sense of humor if nothing else.

I think that's why it seemed way more important (to me) to present and highlight the lady who said this:

"If you haven't anything nice to say about anybody, come sit next to me."

Yep, that's your cousin who said that, Paige Dunham. That's your cousin Alice Roosevelt Longworth. A lady, perhaps rhetorically more interesting than her esteemed father. (Just saying...) Okay, granted, Alice isn't a close cousin, but still, I'd rather be related to her than a host of smarmy others.

Okay, time for me to put forth that pedigree chart in the image below:

There is always that pesky fact that "she and ye" are both related to old cousin Lee Harvey, but I think in this instance it's best not to dwell on these things. I for one, don't wish to piss off Cousin Alice over metionning the ne're do well Lee Harvey. LOL.

So, in light of brevity, I am going to leave this here. I will leave you with Cousin Alice and her quote on eternal youth:

"The secret to eternal youth is arrested development."

Dang, Alice, you sure had it going on.

But I do have to say, if it turns out that Paige is related to Batman via Teddy Roosevelt, I may be in worse trouble than I thought!

Wink!
